A Moroccan man walks past a wall on which are painted the symbols of the political parties running for the parliamentary elections in the Moroccan capital Rabat on October 7, 2016. From L to R : the dolphin stands for the Moroccan Union for Democracy (UMD), the bird stands for the National Rally of Independents (GNL), the moose stands for the Party of the Enviroment and of Durable Developement and the horse stands for the Constitutional Union. - Moroccans voted to elect a new parliament, five years after an Islamist-led government took office following Arab Spring-inspired protests that toppled regimes across the region. To make life easier for the illiterate, who make up a third of Morocco's population, the 30 parties in contention were marked on ballot papers with symbols such as a tractor or camel.
